Palliative Care for Dementia
Palliative care is available from diagnosis of FTD, or any dementia. Hospice provides care in the final 6 months of life, as verified by 2 physicians saying if the disease follows the normal course, you have 6 months or less to live.
Palliative care is covered by Medicare, Medicaid and many private insurance plans, as it cuts costs of care by having someone coordinating care and managing symptoms.
Palliative is NOT about dying, it is about having someone know how you want to live, what your wishes are, and to support family in care coordination. You can keep your own primary care physician.
